Alternate Apocalypse returned to the Trinity Centre, formerly the Holy Trinity Church in Bristol for a heavyweight Halloween party. The night consisted of a monstrous line up and an intense visual experience alongside a full venue light show. Alternate is a successful Bristol based event, that exposes the best in underground music. Established in 2012, Alternate have regularly hosted nights in Bristol’s top venues including Lakota and Blue Mountain.
The Trinity Centre is a unique venue, that empowers the community by providing a space to showcase Bristol’s art and culture. As a former church and historic landmark, the Trinity Centre is one of the city's few remaining independent live-music venues, used by over 60,000 people each year.
The dark and heavy sounds of Bristol ruled the night, opening with Ill truth and Sam Binary, letting loose the sounds of unrelenting minimal drum and bass. Shots were then fired by half-time double team Ivy lab, seamlessly shelling hip-hop beats and drum and bass rollers as if they were a single genre, with crowd head-nodding and bass faces guaranteed.
Bristol-based DJ Break majestically took the ravers into a new age of drum and bass, spinning tracks from his latest monumental album ‘Another Way’. Next up, the iconic scratch-master DJ Marky sliced and diced through his 90-minutes of hard shot rollers and jungle with a touch of class, vocalised by the master of ceremonies GQ. Finally, T>I on closing-set duties rounded off the night, treating the ravers with low-fi, sub heavy steppers to wile out to.
Each artist brought a different flavour of drum and bass to the stage, performing alongside MC’s Remidy, Seige, Medic and Bluejay. The night ranged from the weighty, skank-inducing rollers to the inventive and outlandish sounds of half-time. With legends performing alongside new talent, Alternate provided a journey into the darker side of drum and bass and we’re definitely hungry for more.
