Over 25 years in the game,V Recordingsis one of the most respected labels in the drum and bass scene. After a sell-out show in November, Planet V is returning to London’sSteel Yard, on Friday 5 July to celebrate the launch of their ‘Future’ album. The album will feature a selection of the label’s long-standing original artists, alongside new talent - bringing together some of the most versatile producers the underground scene has to offer.
V Recordings was founded in 1993 by Bryan G and Jumping Jack Frost. The pair began by selecting the best tracks from the freshest talent to feature on the label, which included work from Dillinja, Roni Size, Krust and Dj Die. The original ‘V Classic’ and ‘Planet V’ LPs, cemented the brand’s reputation as one of the leading independent record labels around.
In the last few years, V Recordings has continued their domination by introducing sub-labels, Liquid V and Chronic, with artists like Artificial Intelligence, Cabbie and Utah Jazz joining the V family. July’s lineup represents the best of what Planet V has to offer. Their album launch will take the crowd on a journey through the many different styles of drum and bass, from soulful melodies to heavy basslines.
Over the last decade, Serum has risen his way up the ranks, gaining a wide-spread appeal from both labels and listeners. His sets range from vintage jungle to modern jump up, often featuring tracks from his supergroup alias Kings of the Rollers. Fellow group member Voltage, has also secured a spot on the lineup as the special guest, alongside MC Bassman. The double award-winning DJ and producer is one of the most exciting acts to have emerged from drum and bass and is guaranteed to bring his signature selection to the London event.
Drum and bass veteran, Krust is one of the genre’s original pioneers, having earnt countless respect from his many releases on V. His timeless track, Warhead made a big impact early on in jump-up raves. With a love for conceptual composition, Need For Mirrors is also joining the lineup. His commitment to creating emotionally charged dance music and his relentless output of high-quality and original material, has positioned him amongst the greats of modern drum and bass.
Brazilian drum and bass due, Alibi is formed from two of the most impressive rising stars on the scene - Level 2 and DJ Chap. After gracing the decks with TRAC at 25 Years Of V Recordings, they’re returning to showcase more of their quality production and energetic mixing. Paul T & Edward Oberon create a sophisticated blend of soulful yet heavy drum and bass. With a shared love for Bristol bass, Brazilian flair and old school jungle reflected in their music - the duo bring a diverse style to their output.
With releases on Metalheadz, Grid and Hospital, Command Strange is a young yet versatile artist whose sound encompasses the harder and heavier styles of drum and bass. Another addition to London’s lineup is Donovan Smith, known for his old school jungle, hardcore sounds and experimental fast-paced beats. The night will be hosted by King of the Rollers front man, Inja alongside MC’s Stamina, Moose, Juiceman and Illmatika.
