To celebrate 25 years of Metalheadz, the historic drum and bass label will take over the industrial environment of London’s Printworks with Lock N’ Load Events and Free From Sleep, on 5 October, for one of their most significant shows to date.
Since opening its doors in 2017, Printworks has changed the face of the capital’s music scene, setting a new standard for UK nightlife. The venue has previously invited some of the biggest drum and bass labels to fill their 5,000-capacity space, including Hospitality, UKF, Ram Records, Shogun Audio and Playaz. Founder of Metalheadz and label-boss, Goldie will be joined by an extensive line-up of hugely influential artists from within the scene, for a monumental eleven-hour celebration in the iconic Press Halls.
Marking a quarter of a century, Metalheadz have invited several special guests who have played vital roles in shaping the UK rave scene to join the celebrations. This includes David Rodigan, who's known for his 'ganja-scented, bass-heavy' reggae selection, the dubstep-turned-disco selector Skream, jungle and UK garage producer, DJ Zinc and the versatile ‘drum-and-bassline’ duo My Nu Leng, accompanied by Dread MC.
Of course, the Metalheadz artists will be out in full force across both rooms. The Press Halls will see the main man Goldie on a back-to-back set with Doc Scott, drum and bass originators; Fabio & Grooverider and the godfather of breakbeat; Randall. We'll also see performances from the female chief selector; DJ Storm, ‘the inner sanctum of drum and bass’; Flight, modern junglist; Om Unit and the enigmatic, sonically versatile Dub Phizix.
Printworks’ Dark Room, a more intimate rave setting with minimal lighting and a Void sound system will be packed with Headz artists from all eras. Sound-tracking this space is Benny L, DLR, Artificial Intelligence, Zero T, Nymfo, Ant TC1, Grey Code and Scar. LowQui, Codebreaker and Visionobi complete the bill on MC duties. Metalheadz are also interviewing artists from across it’s 25-year lifespan to reminisce their best memories and experiences with the label, their favourite tracks and what they were doing back when it all began in 1994.
