It's always been a challenge for up and coming artists to stand out in the rave scene. Many work extremely hard to push their sound but don’t get the recognition they deserve, trying to work their way up through the rooms but always seem to get booked for room two and not the main stage.
Room 2 is an exciting new music collective made up of the talented MCs Duskee, Comma Dee, NV, Dazman and their resident DJ, Reazun. We managed to track down Reazun to see what he's been up to and to find out what to expect from the Room 2 boys this year.
Tell us a bit about who you are and Room 2
I’m Josh Mosse aka Reazun - 24 years old from London currently living and studying towards a degree in sound engineering in Bournemouth. I’ve been a DJ for about 4 years and a producer for about half a year.
Room 2 is made up of a small group of artists which includes Duskee, Comma Dee, NV, Dazman and myself. The concept revolves around promoting the sounds of artists that are often overlooked and underrated within the scene. We’re pushing the sounds of jungle and minimal drum and bass, combined with talented MC’s who speak their minds over the music.
Room 2 is unique because at the moment there isn’t an act pursuing the sound we create. All of our MC’S come from mixed musical backgrounds such as, grime, hip hop, rap and jump up drum and bass, so it’s good to hear a variety of styles within one bit of content.
What are the main influences behind your music today?
As a DJ and Producer, the list goes on forever when it comes to influences. The sounds I try to push when I create mixes range from artists from across the whole spectrum, from underground jungle artists like, Hybrid, Veak, Epicentre and Verdikt, to soulful liquid by the likes of Calibre, LSB, Spectrasoul and Technimatic, to Deep minimal rollers from Kasra, Enei, Bredren and QZB. The list could go on for days and maybe if I’m feeling a bit cheeky, I may throw a little jump up number in there.
The influences behind Room 2 come from multiple things, like I said earlier our MC’s are from different musical backgrounds ranging through multiple genres and sub genres, which can be heard clearly within the music. Overall, as a collective we try and push and influence each other as artists and I believe it’s working because the Soundcloud numbers don’t lie.
What brought you together as artists and where did the idea for Room 2 originate from?
The idea of Room 2 came together through myself and my close friend Duskee. We were always talking about how there are so many artist’s who have worked extremely hard to push their sound but don’t get the recognition they deserve, trying to graft their way up through the rooms but always seem to get booked for room two and not the main stage where they should be.
We were already familiar with a lot of these artists from playing together at the same events over the years and listening to each other’s content on social media. So we decided to make something from it and contacted the artists who we thought should be involved and Room 2 was born.
What’s been the biggest highlight so far, as a solo artist or Room 2?
Room 2 is very young as it’s not even a year old yet and we have already released two huge mixtapes, with a thrid one about to drop very soon, featuring special guest Mr Traumatik. Both mixtapes so far have seen over 10K plays and 1k likes on Soundcloud, with support from huge artists such as MC iC3, Harry Shotta, Fatman D and Funsta.
The support we’ve received has been surreal and we can’t thank everyone enough for their shares, likes and comments. Our artists have had a lot of highlights and success this year, which is only going to get bigger and better.
How much preparation goes into your live sets?
For live sets, not much preparation if I’m honest. We just go with the flow and play what we think the crowd wants to hear. All of the MC’s work well with each other so we just let the music and bars flow together.
What can we expect from Room 2 this year?
Lots! A few things I can’t quite say yet but keep your eyes and ears peeled. 2019 is going to be a huge year for Room 2 and for the artists as individuals. Room 2 – Project 3 featuring Mr Traumatik is dropping very soon. Peace and love to everyone supporting the movement.
